Who this helps

Built around a buying situation.

  • Manufacturing and engineering sites
  • Facilities storing or using dangerous substances
  • Projects changing plant, process or ventilation

Useful when

The trigger is already visible.

  • Flammable gas, liquid, vapour or combustible dust is present
  • The process, substance or equipment has changed
  • Hazardous-area records and equipment evidence do not align

The position

Control the process that creates the atmosphere.

DSEAR requires employers to control safety risks from fire, explosion and substances corrosive to metals. Pegasus supports a structured route from substance and process information through release scenarios, hazardous-area considerations, ignition control and owned actions.

01

A defined scope and accountable decision owners

02

Controls matched to the real operating context

03

Evidence that can be reviewed, tested and improved

Scope

What the work includes.

Every engagement is scoped around authority, operating context, available evidence and the decision that must be made.

01

Substance and process baseline

Establish substances, properties, quantities, process conditions, releases, ventilation, people and existing safeguards.

02

Hazardous-area assessment support

Support hazardous-area assessment and zoning inputs, ignition-source review and equipment evidence within the agreed competence and scope.

03

Control and action verification

Prioritise prevention, mitigation, emergency, information and verification actions with named owners.

Method

A controlled route from exposure to evidence.

Decision points, responsibilities and verification stay visible from the start.

01

Discover

Define the exposure, context, evidence, owners and decision that matters.

02

Design

Select proportionate controls and make responsibilities and hold points visible.

03

Implement

Embed the agreed system into the real operating workflow.

04

Verify

Test whether controls work and whether the evidence supports the conclusion.

05

Improve

Close actions, learn from exceptions and strengthen the system over time.

Outputs

Evidence designed for use.

Scope and evidence map

Prioritised findings and action ownership

Practical control or implementation pack

Verification record and next-step roadmap

Professional boundaries

Precision includes saying what the work does not claim.

Questions answered

Before you scope the work.

What substances can bring DSEAR into scope?

Examples include flammable gases, liquids and vapours, combustible dusts, pressurised substances and substances corrosive to metals. Applicability depends on the workplace and process.

Is hazardous-area zoning the whole DSEAR assessment?

No. Zoning is one part where explosive atmospheres may occur. The wider assessment considers dangerous substances, work activities, releases, ignition, controls, consequences and emergency arrangements.

Does Pegasus certify ATEX equipment?

No claim of product or equipment certification is made. Specialist design, inspection or certification outside scope is referred appropriately.

A first conversation is used to understand context, authority and the decision required—not to force a predetermined package.
